We always hear the words “Face your fear” or “Just do it.” However, like most things, confronting our fear is easier said than done. But here’s the good news: we can indeed learn to face our fears.

In today’s episode, we talk about the origin of our fears, how fear manifests in who we are, and how we can navigate through it.

WHAT TO LISTEN FOR:

Your fear comes from your what-ifs [4:37]

  • What if I don't get what I want?

  • What if I don't succeed?

  • What if I'm a failure?

  • What if I'm not enough?

  • What if I get rejected?

  • What if I get judged?

The manifestations of fear (and how it can overtake you) [7:46]

  • Being calculated and thorough in making choices

  • Spending more time thinking vs. moving

  • Hating to gamble and lose—which could be really limiting

The haze with confronting fear [10:42]

  • Self-medicating (or avoiding potential help)

  • It can be really scary! But the more you do it, the easier it becomes

  • Your fear of what’s beyond the confrontation

Navigating fear [17:25]

  • Understanding that fear is OKAY

  • Even if you don’t do it now, you will have to eventually. So why not do it on your own terms?

  • Sometimes, a huge part of your fear turns out to be excitement

  • Confronting your fear can lead you to your purpose

Fear never goes away. It won’t and can’t change—but your mindset, whether to face it or avoid it, can.

EPISODE QUOTES:

We have to understand that at some point, we will run into the thing that we have been desperately trying to run away from. And when I have a plan for what I'm going to do when I run into that thing, that is much better than saying that my only plan is to avoid it and never see it again.

- Scott Hayes

My response to fear can even change and shift as I grow, as I evolve.”

- Shaté Hayes

I choose to view it through a lens of victory and purpose. I know that I am stepping into my purpose when I acknowledge that fear is there, and I choose to do the thing anyway.
